What really strikes a nerve with me, though, is how Hasbro, who financed Bumblebee, hired a non-union guy to do a scratch track for Optimus Prime, which the animators used as their reference, and then had Peter come in at the eleventh hour, when it was too late to fix the animation to his voice and all the details that come with it, all because it was cheaper. Here's my unpopular opinion - As someone who was introduced to the lore of Transformers through the first 3 movies, I honestly found the lore fascinating and kind of unpredictable - so much so that when Optimus died, I was legitimately shocked and thought he was gone for good and when Sentinel turned bad, I was surprised at that as well. This was also Shia's last movie and it pretty much has a lot of what the original had and what made it so good. Now, I'm not saying their exactly the same but there is enough of a similarity to warrant pointing it out, so if not a rip-off per say it's from the same wheelhouse. Bumblebee had excellent character designs that stood out, while when watching the other movies, the Decepticons always have a grey body with red eyes, so it's harder for general audiences to know who's who. The explosion is visually stimulating, as is much of the clip in its entirety, but it's not an explosion that makes any sense. the two movies aren't alike. I will say though that the very first of the movies is still not bad. From 00:20 to 00:28, once again, the car teleports do an entirely different location. Plus Orson fucking Welles as a planet. [–]Abraham_Issus 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children). While it has existed in several mediums (you may have heard about a movie or two) Transformers feels most at home as an animated series, where the world of the Autobots and Decepticons is given room to breathe while still offering dynamic action and innovative storytelling. Close. Bumblebee was on a whole other level from those movies. As someone who grew up on Beast Wars, I can't wait! Were they reporting every planet? And the robot fights were ones you could actually follow, it wasn’t just a bunch of screeching metal grinding and stabbing and exploding screeching metal. and Orson Welles as Unicron, for understandable reasons. That's half the joy of transformers, and the other movies missed it completely. It’s the lack of editing. Honestly man, it doesn't look to me like Bay "knows where he wants every last spark to land" at all. It would’ve been a better movie if he just straight up didn’t exist, [–]KrillinDBZ363 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (0 children). Transformers is one of Hollywood's biggest film franchises, but which movie is the best one? With the addition of the newest entry, Bumblebee, there are now six live-action feature films about the war between the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons since 2007.Including the 1986 animated film The Transformers: The Movie, the franchise as so far earned over $4.3 billion at the global box … I do really enjoy the effort he puts into action sequences. 48 votes, 38 comments. Although I don't know why you'd argue in favour of films being a product rather than an artistic vision, but that's just me. Yes, there were contradictions in the writing of the Bay-directed movies, but many of these differences can be accommodated, while the ones in Bumblebee feel particularly egregious. Bumblebee and Iron Giant are not the same stories, at all. I don't like most of his movies, yet still watched all of them because I just know I'll be in for a visual treat in a style that noone else does as well as him atm. 66.9k members in the transformers community. Born “Orion Pax” before becoming a Prime and leading the Autobots through Cybertron’s great war, there’s a reason every Autobot would put their life on the line for this truck. I love the transformers movies. Finally, story-wise, it feels like it's treading familiar ground, as it's very similar to the first movie where a teenager unwittingly acquires Bumblebee and develops a relationship with him. I don't mean that in a good way; he knows the minimum effort to put in and still earn a huge paycheck. A young person befriends a sentient robot from space that the military is investigating, which is pretty close to The Iron Giant. You can't legally infringe on such a broad plot line, thank god. 8. For anyone who hasn't seen this already, here's the opening scene re-scored with the 1986 Transformers theme song. All that it missing is Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime. It did EVERYTHING right from the action sequences to the good, but simple plot. It actually is even BETTER with the old theme song. But brilliantly watchable for it. I get that the 80s film was just a toy commercial but I feel like the idea of a transformers movie suffered less from that than it did from being military porn. I also liked how they developed the characters and it generally felt like the film had heart (instead of just filling it with explosion after explosion). Initially there's one of those blacked out offroad-crossover vehicles on their right flank, and a black Cadillac on their left flank. It has the fights, the scale, a better Sam than the first two movies. The fact that he only became a part of the plot because he broke into Charlie’s garage never sat right with me. Perhaps not realistically, but the fact is that they use in interesting ways unique to the Transformers lore. I’m really surprised that many seem to think it’s great. [–]HawtchWatcher 1 point2 points3 points 6 months ago (3 children). It was pretty clear that people were getting sick of the Bayformers formula because Last Knight did half as well in the box office as Age of Extinction did, which also didn't do as well as the movie before that. Maybe but it's a pretty low bar to clear. so unfortunately if I was a person who was only familiar with the Michael Bay films, I probably wouldn't have gone to see it. All that it missing is Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime. An extended toy commercial that got the shift between product years so wrong that it caused children to barricade themselves in their rooms.
